Hard Maple sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. The amount of darker brown heartwood can vary significantly according to growing region, InternetLumber color sorts all upper grades of hard and soft maple for color into white one face and white one face and better. Both sapwood and heartwood can contain pith fleck. The wood has a close fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained, but it can also occur as "curly," "fiddleback," and "birds-eye" figure.The wood is hard and heavy with good strength properties, in particular its high resistance to abrasion and wear. It also has good steam-bending properties.Hard Maple typically comes from Sugar Maples (Acer saccharum) the same trees that are used to produce maple syrup.

Hard Maple lumber is available in 4/4, 5/4, and 8/4 thicknesses. InternetLumber offers Maple lumber in FAS, #1Common, #2Common, and #3Common.

All lumber orders will ship by common carrier, full length (8' and longer, except lowers which are 4' and longer). All lumber is shipped random widths from. For dimension lumber look under S4S lumber in the millwork section of this site.

Hard Maple lumber is sold in the rough or hit-or-missed to 15/16". We also offer S2S and SLR1E (straight line rip one edge), and can gang rip to blanks (minimum 1000BF for gang-rip) at an additional cost. SLR1E requires surfacing prior to ripping and is tallied prior to ripping.

All lumber is kiln dried and meets NHLA grading rules for the grade specified..
