We can't say enough great things about this species, more dense than Hard Maple (Janka 1620), more stable than any of the other tropical 'cherrys' (Jatoba, Makore, etc.) and with fantastic coloration without the concerns of photosensitivity found in so many tropical hardwoods. This species originates in the rainforests of Peru, east of the Andes. As with all of our imported hardwoods one of our key concerns is ensuring that the production of our floors is responsible, both environmentally and socio-economically. We have worked with our supplier, a family owned Peruvian timber company to establish manufacturing processes inline with our own domestic production standards, this ensures that our customers receive the quality they expect and that our mill is able to keep a significant portion of the value added processes in country. In Peru where unemployment is as high as 50% in some areas this is a key aspect of our economic commitment to our partner.
